In the UK it is estimated that 1 in 100 people have coeliac disease, yet only 10-15% are clinically diagnosed. Therefore, there are many more individuals who have this lifelong condition but who are unaware of it or it has not been recognised by the medical community. Interestingly, from an epidemiological viewpoint it is thought that the emerging condition, gluten sensitivity, is more prevalent than coeliac disease.
