Carlo Catassi - Paediatrician

Carlo Catassi initially worked as a physician in Ancona after completing his medical training and then began his research and teaching career as a university assistant at the Marche Polytechnic University (Italy). In 2004, he was made professor of paediatrics at this institution and has been a visiting professor and co-director of the 'Center For Celiac Research' at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, USA since 2003.
Professor Catassi has been researching coeliac condition for many years. He manages the gastroenterology, nutrition and auxology department of the Clinica Pedriatica in Ancona and has published over 100 papers in various international journals.

Jernej Dolinsek - Paediatrician/Gastroenterologist

Jernej Dolinsek is a physician from Slovenia who has been working as a paediatrician at the Maribor University Medical Center since 1996, and in 2008 took over management of the department. He specialises in paediatric gastroenterology and, in particular, coeliac condition. Besides various research activities which he also conducts in Finland, Jernej Dolinsek has written numerous papers and has spoken at the most prestigious Eastern European conferences on coeliac condition.

Michael Schumann - Gastroenterologist

After completing his medical training, Mainz physician Michael Schumann moved to the USA, where he carried out research at the gastroenterological department of the American National Institute of Health (NIH) as a visiting research fellow. Since 2003, Schumann has been working as a research associate at the clinic for gastroenterology, rheumatology and infectiology at the Benjamin Franklin campus of the Charité teaching hospital in Berlin. His field of research is gliadin and the epithelial barrier of the intestine.

Letizia Saturni - Nutritionist

Having completed her training in biology, biochemistry and biophysics and specialising in nutritional sciences, Letizia Saturni is now a tutor on the masters course in dietetics and nutrition and lecturer at the college of nutritional sciences at Marche Polytechnic University in Italy. She also keeps a blog devoted exclusively to coeliac condition.

Christof Meinhold - Nutritional Scientist

Christof Meinhold took Nutritional Science and Home Economics at the University of Giessen (1990-1996), specialising in nutritional advice and communication, nutritional ecology, pathophysiology and business studies for large budgets. He has been certified as a "Nutritional expert in allergology" by the German Allergy and Asthma Institute (DAAB). Since 1999 he has been running nutritional advice surgeries in Cologne and Bonn. His specialisms include "Nutrition with gastrointestinal diseases", "Nutrition with lipid metabolism complaints, high blood pressure and coronary heart diseases", "Food intolerances and allergies", and "Nutrition with cancer and HIV/AIDS". Mr Meinhold is a permanent member of the expert panel that answers consumer questions for the "aid information service" (www.was-wir-essen.de) and online editor for the student-teacher project www.talkingfood.de.

Bruno Bonaz - Gastroenterologist

Gemma Casteillejo - Gastroenterology paediatrician

After carrying out a residency in paediatrics at the Vall'Hebron Maternal and Infant Hospital, I trained in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Paediatric Nutrition at the Sant Joan de Deu Hospital in Barcelona. I spent 1998 working as a gastroenterology paediatrician in the Sant Joan de Reus University Hospital.
I am currently a lecturer at the Rovira i Virgili University, and a member of the Spanish and European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (SEGNHP y ESPGHAN), as well as a founding member of the Spanish Coeliac Disease Society (SEEC). My research since 2006 has been focussed on coeliac disease. I have been involved in national and European studies, having contributions published in international journals and attending various conferences.

Wolfgang Holtmeier - Gastroenterologist/Diabetologist

Professor Wolfgang Holtmeier is the chief consultant at the Clinic for Gastroenterology, Diabetology and Internal Medicine at the Porz am Rhein hospital (the teaching hospital for the University of Cologne). He trained as a gastroenterologist under Prof. Caspary at the University of Frankfurt and spent three years working as a researcher in the Laboratory of Mucosal Immunology run by Prof. Kagnoff at the University California, San Diego (USA). This research focused on coeliac disease and chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). He is a consultant immunologist for the German Association of Immunology and a member of the scientific advisory board for the German Coeliac Society.

Luca Elli - Gastroenterologist

Doctor Luca Elli graduated in Medicine in 2000 at University of Milan and then graduated in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy in 2004 University of Udine. Later he obtained the title of Doctor in Gastroenterological Science (PhD) at the Department of Medical Sciences, University of Milan. Since 2004 he was first assistant and from 2011 he became head of the "Center for Prevention and Diagnosis of Celiac Disease" Fondazione IRCCS Cà Granda - Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan. He conducts clinical and endoscopic digestive practice with particular interest in the techniques of small bowel enteroscopy. He’s author of 40 scientific papers published in international scientific journals with IF.
